Award helps Kingston Gujarati Club get healthy

2009

Kingston Gujarati School gives a cheer for BT Community Champio, Rajendra PandyaBT employee Rajendra Pandya has been recognised for his voluntary work at Kingston Upon Thames Gujarati School through the BT Community Champions scheme with a £500 grant.

A member of the BT Business broadband repair team, based in Croydon, Rajendra spends more than 36 hours a month volunteering with Kingston Upon Thames Gujarati School.  The school aims to teach students the Gujarati language and culture whilst working within the community to provide a clear understanding of the culture to all members of society.

Rajendra said: "I have been involved with the Gujarati School for 21 years and being rewarded by my employer for my voluntary work is simply a fantastic feeling.  Whilst seeing the school flourish is an enormous reward in itself, I am delighted that BT recognises the contribution volunteers make to local communities. It's great to work for an employer that encourages its employees to get involved with voluntary work as it is both enjoyable and fulfilling.

"Our £500 BT Community Champions award will be extremely valuable to our group, especially in the current economic climate.  The money will be used to ensure the school kick starts its healthy eating campaign, promoting the benefits of a balanced diet and healthy lifestyle to local children.  We have lots of interactive activities planned in both English and Gujarati and this money will make sure we can get as many children involved as possible."
